Brunello
The Gracious Visionary
The life and philosophy of Brunello Cucinelli chronicled in a documentary film directed by Giuseppe Tornatore
Official documentary film poster for Brunello: the Gracious Visionary
“With joy and emotion, I announce Brunello: the Gracious Visionary, a film about my life. Three years ago, the light of Solomeo awakened in me a new sense of time and knowledge. I imagined time expanding without end, and found in books the purest form of wisdom. I decided to entrust a film with my life’s story, as a tribute to the human values that have deeply nourished my soul. Only a docufilm, born of a dream and shaped by maestro Giuseppe Tornatore with Nicola Piovani’s music, could tell the true fable of a humble farmer who saw in the earth and the stars a vision of work in harmony with Creation. I dedicate this film to the youth of yesterday, today, and tomorrow — for they are the salt of the earth, and to them, in their own time, belongs the future of humanity”.
Official trailer of the documentary film
In the documentary film Brunello: the Gracious Visionary, Giuseppe Tornatore imagines a symbolic card game between Brunello and a mysterious opponent—an allegory of Cucinelli’s life. As the unseen rival plays his hand, the film traces Brunello’s journey in a lyrical narrative, blending cinematic reconstructions, archival footage and intimate testimonies. Each chapter of his life is marked by affectionate nicknames: “little fox” from his grandfather, “young lord” from his father, “the German” from colleagues and “the wolf” from his wife. A poetic, almost medieval canticle, the film bears Tornatore’s unique signature, elevated by Nicola Piovani’s score.
“I believe there are moments in life when joy is so radiant and intense that it cannot be captured in words; moments like those childhood nights when I would lose myself gazing at the shimmer of the stars, which made me feel as if I was floating beside them. I was deeply moved to see once more, on the big screen, that child who grew up in the countryside, following nature and its noble teachings. Last night, at the Rome première of the documentary film Brunello: the Gracious Visionary, it was an honour to witness my lifelong dream brought to reality and to relive the moments that have led me to where I stand today, in the company of esteemed journalists, authorities, and international celebrities, surrounded by my family and my dearest friends. To the Maestri Giuseppe Tornatore and Nicola Piovani, my deepest gratitude for gifting us the sublime poetry of their talent. To all those present on this memorable occasion, my heartfelt thanks. May the stars illuminate our path”.
